Scaling monsters: Opponent Level, Uncapped Gains
So, the game has officially been around a while and stuff is starting to grow in different fields of gameplay. This being said, some things probably need to be considered for the future outlook of the game's holidays and scaling monsters aspect of the game in general. While having uncapped gains may be a great joy for those receiving them, they really make the game unbalanced as a whole. While players are fighting a scaling monster they are gaining enough subpoints in one day to gain a full level regardless of level. I personally am a level 26 and was at the start of my level at the beginning of the day and still have 350+ turns(about 580ish full day) and am basicly level 27 now. While that may be acceptable, lets thinking further ahead at people in the level 40 range, nothing has changed, they too are leveling up just as fast as my level 26. It doesn't end at subpoints either, there is no cap on moolah gains either. While I gain 3,500 moolah at level 26/27. A level 43 is gaining 7,000 moolah. This is all without Moolah Boosting effects, just boosts from gear and pet. With boosts, you just further increase that gap, a person at level 43 could gain 15K-18K moolah a turn.
While on the topic of scaling monsters, I would like to further tread on the fact that Opponent Level, while very much changing the difficulty of the fight, doesn't have much affect on the rewards because the scaling greatly throws the base Opponent Levels out of whack. So while a Level 26 is gaining 200ish subpoints a fight and 3500 moolah with full +OL gear on. He would still be getting 3400 moolah and 180ish subpoints with -3OL and having super easy fights.
I think scaling monsters will need tweaking for long-term playing. Put some caps in place. Caps should be around where you think the standard player should be at during the end of a typical run.

I wasn't aware numbers were so crazy. I agree, they need to scale differently, or people at level 100+ will just make crazy amounts of moolah and screw up the economy.

Re: Scaling monsters: Opponent Level, Uncapped Gains
So, the leprechauns are giving ridiculous gains at higher levels. Makes sense. Obviously we needed to have people at higher levels to find that out, heh.
Luckily, I planned scaling monsters better than you assume I did, and so they can very easily be capped by me going into the database and changing the number in the box to something more appropriate than it is now.
I'll do it just as soon as I choose a sensible figure... Around level 20 seems fair.

Re: Scaling monsters: Opponent Level, Uncapped Gains
I'm like the Level Cap, but I think it should be moved up to maybe 30. With expansion in quests chains and with the highest level trophy being 30 and all, seems like a better spot for it. I'd assume the majority of the active players right now are over level 20. With the cap in place, these things don't even get initiative now. Any way you can fix that? or afix the REWARDS part to level 20 and make the OPPONENT part still scale?

As discussed in chat, the answer is no. I chose 20 because it's significantly better than anything currently available in the regular content so as a way to spend a day's turns, it's still giving you better stat/moolah gains than anything else, plus the extra stuff.

Re: Scaling monsters: Opponent Level, Uncapped Gains
30 imo, but gobb has tested it and says 20 soo... I guess 20 is good
Re: Scaling monsters: Opponent Level, Uncapped Gains
But everyone knows 21 is better than 20, because that makes it legal (in the US anyway, I think as soon as you can reach the bar is legal in Aussie land )
Re: Scaling monsters: Opponent Level, Uncapped Gains
Imagine if it wasn't changed and spiff/sally/someone got to 100+... that would be like 100k per turn.

Yep, and we've got some really short bars around here.sodafett wrote:But everyone knows 21 is better than 20, because that makes it legal (in the US anyway, I think as soon as you can reach the bar is legal in Aussie land )

LOL, I can just imagine that.
Aww Babies first steps, Aww Babies first words, Aww Babies first beer.
All at the same time.
Also, Level 100 would be more like 140K a turn cowboy at the inclined rate it was going up.

What would level 256 be (the cap, as everyone on the test server knows )

not sure, but if it follows the same incline rate, probably in the 550K-600K range.

That would be a pretty epic day, farming 200-300million easy.
