Question of the Week (April 24 -30) -- Childhood Candy

Unread post by JazzyCat » Sun Apr 24, 2011 10:28 pm

Question of the week!

Here is a way to get to know one another a bit without getting too personal or taking too much time. I will ask a new question every Sunday. Post your response to the question and visit again throughout the week to comment on others’ responses as well.
To get things started, I will always answer the question when I post.

Please feel free to send me a pmail with suggestions on future questions of the week. I have received a few suggestions already. Thanks!

All players that answer the question will get a small gift of thanks from me. At the least: a hug, some food items, and some drink items.

Here is this week's question:
What candy did you really like as a kid that you cannot find anymore?

I look forward to hearing from you all.

The idea for this question actually came to me as I was having a discussion about candy with a few co-workers before a meeting began. We started talking about the candy that I had brought to the meeting and then we started reminiscing about candy that we used to love and cannot get anymore. Enjoy!

I love candy and always have! It is sad that certain candies sort of just disappear with no warning! The good thing is that new ones come out as well. Time to find new favorites!

When I was in 7th grade, I loved Bonkers. They were a soft, chewy candy that had two shades of the same color. I loved the grape ones. The commercials were a bit odd, but I sure did go bonkers over Bonkers!

I also loved Gator Gum, which tasted like Gatorade. mmmmmmmmm

I know there are more that I will remember as the week goes on.

Seriously?

I loved DinoSour Eggs, Mars Bars (old recipe), Butterfinger BBs, Hershey's Cookie and Mint Candy Bars, Dweebs, Oompas, and Swoops.

I highly think that the US should pick up the Mars Companies Celebration Tins campaign as well.

Pop rocks, nerds, pixie stix, snickers, peanut butter cups, those were my childhood favorites. :)

Root Beer bubble gum with the root beer liquid center.

Damn I miss those.

Let's see here, Almond Joys, Starburst, Skittles, Butterfingers, Sour Patch Kids and Snickers were all favorites of mine at one point or another. Luckily I'm still young enough(or sided with the popular candy enough) that these are all still easy to find.

I almost died choking on skittles one time when I was like 6. After like 20 seconds of no air, a burp came up and I burped it out of my throat. Mountain Dew saved my life, so I drink copious amounts of it to this day 8)

I know the topic title does not stress this, but some of the stuff you guys are posting is still available.

I've been thinking that since the start jup, but some people just aren't that old. So I wasn't going to say anything. I mean, I'm only 22 and found a huge list of things I miss. lol.

honestly, one item I did list made a resurgence in the last few years, Pop Rocks, for a while you could not find them any longer, for many years, but that was my favorite candy, and most candies if they are popular tend to stick around for many, many years, look at the Mars bar and Baby Ruth as 2 examples, candies that don't exist anymore normally means they are not popular, so hard to be a favorite, in my opinion.

Mars bar is still around, but the recipe has changed, so clearly it wasn't that good. and Baby Ruth's are still around, heck, they even branched them off into the Crunch line that Nessle made.

Mars bar was a bad choice to include, but I'd say yeah to Baby Ruths. Not that I like them. But they have been around since 1916, so they must be good to someone. lol, But then again, candy buttons have been around since the early 1900s and those things are basicly paper. lol.

Chocolate cigarettes!
I have not seen them for years. We used to strut about, with our fake cancer sticks, behaving like cool adults.
Wrong, very wrong - we loved 'em!

Okay, so it was not a favorite.... but something made me think about Freshen Up gum today. I am not sure if they still sell it, but I did like the cinnamon gum that had juice in the middle.

Also, I cannot find that Zebra Gum anywhere anymore. Not sure if they still make it, but I did love that gum when I was little. It came only in a 17 pack, and the sticks of gum looked like pastel zebras. They were fruit flavored. I am not sure what it was really called though.

I had a meeting yesterday and brought candy again. More conversations about candy. What a great conversation starter and a way to relax people before a meeting!
