We should all join a beta clan. No other clans could even compete!

You must mean Alpha... A beta clan would be basicly the whole player base since beta is the penultimate step of the game.

Doesn't the game need to implement a clan system first? I think you guys are putting the cart before the horse.

Good point Jup :D

I think "clans" should be the last thing that appears in these forums atm.............

Otherwise, in future we will have clan "ADDS" up to our butts in here

Unless, a clan forum is introduced, idea's on clan's should be talked about amongst each other via pm or in chat.

Nothing wrong with talking clans........ but yeah, I could see the subject growing legs, specially if peoples have opposing idea's...........

just an opinion, nothing more...................... yet

I'm creating Orange Field, and that's all I have to say about that. All you cool alpha kids could send an application through my clan's strenuous filtering process, though. :P

Pulp.

The leader would be the Squeezer. And the new people would be the Rinds. The officers would be the Seeds.

Clan Name: Orange Field
Leader: Orange Overlord
Officers: Mandarin-Blood Orange Agents
Members: Mandarin-Blood Orange Wedges
Probationary Members: Cloud of Orange Zest
Offense-Committing Members: Half-Rotten Orange

You must also undergo a one month probationary period as a Cloud of Orange Zest. Advancements within the clan will be based on either clan activity, or donations to the clan, though there will be no set donation amounts until the finalization and creation of the clan. If you were in a clan prior to Orange Field, you must include a list of your previous clans, and the reason why you left/were kicked from your previous clan. You must also include a 100 word minimum description as to why you wish to join Orange Field, and why you believe you deserve to be accepted. It would also help to come from a trading based background.

2. Spamming
3. In-Clan Fighting
4. Severe Trolling of Clan Members
5. General Douche-Baggery

Probationary offenses will result in at least one month as a Half-Rotten Orange, any officer ranking stripped, and possibly other ranks removed. These rules will be upheld at the discretion of Orange Agents, as well as the Orange Overlord.

Bannable Offenses
1. Item Scamming
2. Real-World Threats
3. Password Scamming
4. Stealing from the Clan Stash
5. Severe Douche-Baggery

Stealing from the clan stash may be lifted to only a probationary offense provided the items are returned plus interest. All severe douche-baggery cases will be judged by the Orange Overlord.

Nah, thanks Zammy........... :D

Im simply unsure of what Gobbs plans are for Clan talk etc.........

Nothing wrong with talking clans, and your example of how you would set one up is a good "template" for others to see....... All Im doing is hitting the pause button on "furtherance" until Gobb smiles down on the thread, OR makes a "clan talk" specific forum.........

This is a good think to happen, cause sooner or later, clan talk/adds/opinion will become quite a big talking point.........and will need to be addressed sooner rather than later

Thanks all for your under..... (dodges tomato's)...... standing

Heh, I love the way you guys seem to think I have plans for everything, as if I know what I'm doing. Haven't you all worked out yet that I make this all up as I go along?

That said... there will indeed be clans in the game, and they will have some sort of shared item arrangement (call it a Stash for familiarity's sake). Some aspects of clans will be familiar to those who've played other Paradox-like games, because those aspects work well and don't need improving. Other aspects will be very different.

For beta purposes, clans will probably be quite simple in nature. Only because we don't want the implementation of clans to slow us down further than we're already slowed down when really, this is a single-player game. Yes, we'd like to add some group play, and we've got some good ideas, but we're shelving them for the minute so we can focus on core gameplay, then come back to them when time allows (and if the players want it).

For now, I'd love to hear everyone's ideas for what clans in paradox should be like, bearing in mind what I've just said. For example, how would you like to go about creating a clan, advertising/recruiting, joining, white-/black-listing, ranking, sharing stuff, what facilities should a clan offer etc.? Even down to things like where you think it might be a cool place to go in town to find clans. We've got our own ideas, but nothing's in stone, and now's a good time to throw ideas around because... well, it's just a good time for it. Go right ahead in the forums. You know I take notes :)

As for starting clans NOW... Honestly, there's no real harm in doing so if you want, provided you don't take over the forums with your clan, and provided you don't start pretending it's part of the game, or officially supported by us. If you do start a "clan", then you're going to need your own clan space in which to conduct your clan business without irritating others who don't care about it. I have no idea what that "clan business" might be right now, or how it might work since there's *currently* no infrastructure in the game to support it, but some of the best clans I've seen in other games have had separate websites and have had all sorts of creative things going on outside of, but related to, the game so... sure, why not. Maybe start by creating a website somewhere for your clan and then I've got no issue at all with putting a forum post in here somewhere about it.

Well clearly I'd stick with the Greek System. Have a place in game called Greek Row. Then I'd make advertising for it like ToG's MALL system. where each clan can have an IMAGE and have a hyperlink next to said image to click on to go to the Application page. Funding would be similar to the MALL system as well where donations to be on the Main page deteriorate at some fixed rate. A Legends(white) list. I think ToG did the ranking system best where you can create your own ranks and assign them Degrees so you know what outranks what in the system. I think there should be a way to share things, but no real idea on this personally. As far as facilities go, I think that just the basic turn-burn things would be fine for a start, things you can just use any amount of turns in to gain subpoints for when you don't have time to play turns.

Well, that is my thoughts, anyone else?

Showcase, so others on the outside(or just inside the guild) can see? or more like a Vault? where only the leader knows what is inside? Or is it more of a rank thing for access, where it is an option in rank setting, like a 2ndary stash.

I don't like the terms "clan" or "guild." They are too close to other multiplayer groups in other games. I like the term "troupe." It has a theater-group ring to it and somewhat fits with the "Musical" aspect of Paradox. I don't know how the ranks of stage performers go, but I would imagine the leader could be the "Playwright" and the upper-tier members the "Lead roles" and the newer members "understudys." I'm sure there are some in-between ranks that could get thrown in there; you've got "stagehands" and "prop masters" along with dozens of others.

You could add Paradox Theatre to the main map with a lobby for recruitment and advertising purposes. Hanging in the halls of the Theatre could be posters displaying the Troupes and information on the posters pertaining to who is in the Troupe and what kind of "trophies" or recognition they have received. (You could do a specific search for a Troupe or, like the blank store search, just look at posters at random.) The Troupes that pay the highest for advertising could have their posters in the Lobby rather than the Halls.

Within the Theatre, Troupe members could enter their specific Dressing Room, which contains amenities (like a make-up mirror for a Bravada boost, etc.) as well as a Prop Trunk which acts as a stash. Also, going along with mack's turn-burn idea, you could rehearse scenes from different plays/musicals to increase stats.

As a further-down-the-road aspect, you could make a Theatre Stage that, if several members of the Troupe are participating simultaneously, could spend turns to perform various play/musical scenes to gain some reward, whether it's a buff of some sort, an achievement for their poster, or simply to gain moolah.

Well, that's what I have for now. Let me know what you think.

I prefer sticking with the theme of the game... either clans or frats. And yeah, a clan showcase would be viewable by everyone. So you could be the first clan to get 1,000,000 AHs or something.

hmm, idk if I'm for or against that. But if you had a solid filter system, I suppose it could be ok. Something like that would certainly draw in the looters and scammers. And you wouldn't have to use it unless you wanted to, so yeah.

Ahh, maybe call them Gangs. I mean, it is a city and cities have gangs. /me pulls out his gat.

well clearly, I was referring to how a showcase displaying a Clan's wealth would draw in looters, because clearly a clan with a marvelous showcase would probably have a decent stash. Now for our next connect the dot project by numbers, we will be drawing a sea turtle!

There is no way to know if they are looter though man. I could be one for all you know. I can think of a specific instance I had in Fool's Folly in KoL. Pretty well established clan, and someone in the clan invited someone in by the name of Steward_of_Antartica. This player was in the clan for a decently long stint, and then decided to loot everything in the stash. You just can't tell.

Instead of a clan, how about "crew", "camp", "pack". "club", "pedigree", "gang", or "party"? :)
Come to think of it, a "Pack of Paradox" has a ring to it!

I'm liking the gang idea, introduce some ghetto to the game 8) Each gang could have their own turf which is decided by which gang has the most members spending the most turns in an area or something, that would introduce a gang vs gang aspect without actually implementing any sort of pvp system.

heh, I threw in an idea for a different game that is based around pvp, a Roman style Coliseum with gladatorial type combat, lions, pvp and so on, even gave ideas on new costumes, never got implimented, might be interesting here if the 'gang' setting was brought in, might even have something like 'cyber arenas' for the Corporate element, but is PVP really going to be a part of the game? I don't think it needs it, but even if it is not, those ideas might be fun to have in here for quest purposes :) (my 2cents)

As for my opinion on Clans, they sound awesome :)

I remember ages ago, gobb or "Someone" talked about the "Group" factor being able to group tasks down the line. So whatever it is, seems like it would have to be able to have Quests or Objectives compatible with it. Companies could do buyouts, they have stocks, and other little things that are fitting this. As for my previous idea of Gangs, they have so many possible expansion possibilities, I don't think I even need to list anything.
