One thing to keep in mind is that by the time I have a bit of time to log in, it is 9:00 my time, which is the middle of the night for most of the people who play this game. I promise I have not gone anywhere. I still check the forums on a regular basis and do some other behind the scenes sort of things. Even if I do not actually log into my account everyday right now, I am definitely not missing.

I'm thinking Mother Nature is a bitch.

Friday, June 29th, one hell of a severe storm rolled through our region. 80+ mph winds, heavy rotation and hail. No reported tornadoes, but you could barely tell. Our house lost power at about 3:30-4:00 pm along with about 75,000 other people. Thankfully, because we're one the same grid as a sewer pump station, we got our power back on in about 6-8 hours or so. Some people to this day still don't have power; I'll get to that shortly. So after nearly a week of 24/7 dedicated hard work by our local electric company, who called in help from as far away as Oklahoma (I live in NE Indiana), power was restored to all but around 8-10,000 homes. Then on the following Thursday (July 5th), we had another high-wind storm blow through our area, knocking out power to several thousand homes once again, most of which whom just had their power restored. This time we weren't so lucky. The winds broke a tree branch in our back yard, ripping the power lines from the utility pole in the alley behind our house. The same fate also visited our neighbor. The irony of the situation was that I was, just previous to the second storm, removing the trees in my yard because the branches would break and knock out my power. sigh. So now the power company is basically back at square one, going back to all the places they were already at to see who does and doesn't have power.
While I was at work today in Ohio (July 6th), my wife (who is totally awesome, btw.) literally chased down a power company worker and got him to come to our neighborhood and restore our power and a few of our neighbors who were still waiting.
So here I sit, with electricity, but yet still feeling unworthy because of all the thousands that still don't, some of which haven't had it for over a week, and I don't know if I should feel good or bad about the situation.
I guess they're right: You never know what you have until it's gone.

God bless you. Because I surely don't feel like I should be.

I got wet yesterday.

It been raining heavily in Britain (of course it has - it's the Wimbleton tennis champs and it ALWAYS rains out). Cardiff though, has been reletively dry (no flooding here at least). jupider, you are justified to find comfort in your limited good fortune and I wish your neighbours darkened houses an uncomplicated recovery.
An uncomplicated recovery to you too, Raga.
And as for you, Deelite, those legs came from the Earth Goddess herself.

Glad to live in florida, where the power companies know what they are doing, longest you go without power is 3 days and that is only after a severe hurricane hits.

One of my friends lives up your way though, his power got knocked out and when it came back on, found out his A/C short circuited, as someone who has experienced this, I can assure you, it costs like 5K dollars to fix... TY storms. >.>

Yeah, we lost power for 4 days and I know people who lost it for up to 9. 3 million people lost power in total, we lost a bunch of trees, and there is a lot of property damage in town too. Big storms suck.

Wow Jupider, glad you are okay over there, we got it lucky and the storms missed us, but there are a lot up here without power due to the heat. I am off and on, dealing with a lot of Medical issues with the new doctor, tests, tests, tests, gods I hate tests, didn't like them in school either :P . But hopefully, now that I am on insulin, things might be working out better so I can get healthy again and then they can work on the other things.. lol

Since this seems like the place to share, I'll tell you a bit about what's been going on in my life.

First, and most obvious, I've been on a one-year "secondment" at work, since July 13 2011, to a job which is a lot more time-consuming and, yes, stressful than my regular job. Worse, because there was so much going on at work that was my personal responsibility, it meant I had a lot of trouble switching my brain out of "work mode" when I left the office. And the pay wasn't actually that much better. Ugh.

Secondly, in late March this year, my in-laws came to live with us for four days while they waited to move into a new house they had bought. Due to legal complications, that four days turned into two weeks, then a month, then two months, then three months, and eventually almost four months before they moved out.

That was four months where my house was full of two people, their pets, a ton of their clothing, food and furniture and... well, basically I had absolutely no chance of doing ANYTHING on Paradox at home during that time due to lack of space.

Believe me, my sanity has been tested.

And now the good news...

As of almost two weeks ago, the in-laws moved out and I have returned to my old department at work. I'm still getting settled in (they've moved to a different building and things have changed a bit since I left) but I expect that by the end of the week things should be pretty much back to "normal" for me... whatever THAT is.

So yeah, there it is in a nutshell. Now you know where I've been, and why I'm suddenly back again.

Catch ya 'round :)

Cloaks stress in honey
And drops it down an ant hill
Routs ruin with pain

Now go treat yourself
Throw chimpanzees at strangers
From a street corner
Chuck in the odd raspberry
While dressed like Julie Gillard

Hee, hee, hee...
The cretin lurks, hiding in peripheral sights, twisting his towel...
