Think you've found a bug? Here's the place to talk about it. It might actually get fixed.

Chat macro test doesn't actually "test"

Unread post by jupider » Tue Jun 08, 2010 4:03 pm

When a macro is created and entered into the "COMMAND" box and a TEST is conducted, the RESULT is merely an echo of the COMMAND text. Observe:

1. Enter "/trade /me wants to buy *all* your base so they are belong to me." into the COMMAND
2. Click TEST

The RESULTS window merely shows:
  • /trade /me wants to buy *all* your base so they are belong to me.
instead of
  • <trade> jupider wants to buy all your base so they are belong to me.
which is how it would appear in chat and is what it should show.

Also, on a completely separate note, by using braces in an emote, it should unitalicize the block of text:
  • /trade /me wants to buy *all* your base so they are belong to {me}.
Should appear as
  • <trade> jupider wants to buy all your base so they are belong to me.

This is correct behaviour.

The test function is not meant to replicate chat output - it's simply there to confirm that what you *think* you're sending to chat with your macro is what you actually *are* sending to chat. It's not massively useful in the very simple example you gave, but when it comes to variable substitution, it's much more effective.

Sounds reasonable. I'll add it to the list.

Not to sound like a complete douchebag, but Gobb's got a LOT on his plate right now with his medical condition and Beta progress. I would suggest just giving it a go in chat every now and then as see if it's implemented. Even though he agrees with the idea doesn't mean he's gonna jump on the code right away. Give it time. If it's still not implemented after Beta is released, then I'd make a point to remind him of it.

I wasn't asking for it to be added right away. I'd just like an announcement when chat is changed. An update in game is fine, but sometimes chat changes aren't included in the in game updates. Sorry if I sounded like a pest.

S'alright. I had a couple beers in me when I typed that. I just read it now and even I think I sound kinda like a jerk.

Mmmm... beer. It's got it's good points, but it's got some bad stuff in there, too. -hic-

To be honest, when beta (finally) rolls out, there will be a LOT of changes made, and this will probably be one of them. I may not actually be able to give you a specific notification of this particular change but I'll try and remember.
