There are indeed. As more and more players sign-up for Paradox, a guild/clan system will become important and we are already discussing how to best implement this. At this stage, however, new content is the primary focus.

Just throwing in a suggestion for this (I know, I know it is far away from implementation) but just a title suggestion for the Clan/Guilds.
It is a University setting so "fraternities" and "sororities" feels like an appropriate name for small groups of players joining up together. PvP pantie raids, keggers, ect.

Just an idea for now. :)

Thematically appropriate. But who in the hell wants to join a frat?
(Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

I did, just before going to college. Especially after seeing Animal House and Revenge of the Nerds I-IV. Greek elitist clans, newbie hazing, frat dues. Maybe I am getting overly enthusiastic with this idea because I was denied membership into one Sophomore year (Low GPA)

I personally love this idea (coming from someone who hated frats in college)! I think this would be an awesome idea, and it would bring out just as many different clans, with different personalities, just like IRL.

Also <3 Revenge of teh Nerds 1 &2

Going with the Sorority/Fraternity idead. Maybe just simply Organizations. Since its a school setting and all schools have organizations/clubs. So maybe like the Jolly Club for people who like Christmas. The Science Lab Club for people who like adventuring in the Dept of ?ionable Sciences.

Just a thought

maybe have the choice to start a student group or a fraternity/sorority(can't see players wanting to organize themselves by gender though) with different benefits and/or drawbacks to each.

I would like to point out one simple fact.

Although the game as you know it know seems to revolve around Paradox University, this does not mean that the story line will continue to be PU-centric. The University plays a significant part in the story line but do not let that limit your ideas concerning clans/guilds/groups/tribes/etc.

That is all.

We need clans. They don't have to do anything just yet, but in the future can be expanded.

Clans are so old-school, man. I want a tree-fort. Or a pillow-fort. Yeah. Something with the ability to hang a 'no boiz allow3d' sign on the outside and a little peephole so I can glare at everyone. Maybe a place to attach a moat full of crocagators or a guard dog who runs on pixie sticks. That fucker would stay awake 24/7. I'm rambling. However, I like these ideas. Feel free to add to my weirdness.

this game is way to small to start segregating us into groups of people who think there cooler then the other.... we already got enough of that... i hope we never have clans or something of the nature but it will happen eventually.... I would rather have content content content and content

Clans, or a reasonable facsimile of same, WILL be introduced at some point. There are many things which have to come first. The concept of introducing a "starter" clan system is not something that is likely to happen, for several reasons. One has already been mentioned. We do not have a need for them at this stage considering the size of the playerbase. Another is that we aren't going to introduce a mechanic that is not completely thought out and will, most likely, have to have a major overhaul to make it into what we want.

So, yes.... a clan (guild, tribe, treehouse, etc.,) system is definitely on the slate. Just don't look for it real soon. :)

And, oh yeah... I'm merging this thread with a topic that has already been created for this discussion.

If there's going to be crocogators running on pixie sticks, then there had better be something worth breaking in to take.

There could be some sort of great war (probably on a lesser scale, like a sporting game between The University and the folks at The Carnival, maybe more) where players choose the side that they support and they player gets a bonus (as previously discussed) based on which side they pick (this would be ongoing as a supporter of the team.) This also has the advantage of events that could happen such as match days with some method of determining the winner ( think the wrestling matches in a certain Loathing based Kingdom.) People on the winning team would then get a bonus on the day such as 'Team spirit' which is cleared at Rollover the next day. Players could then change the team that they support after the match. Players might also be able to buy team gear from the mall to wear. Bets could also be placed on the matches by supporters and people that do not select a team to support.

Nice ideas. Clans/guilds aren't going to be a priority for some time yet, but we have been discussing them, and we're definitely keen to make it more interesting than... well, some other implementations. One of the biggest issues we want to work around somehow is that, not only do different clans exist for different reasons (ie. diamond clans want to be powerful, heart clans are philanthropic etc.) but also a given clan may contain a mix of different players. We just want to make sure we provide something for all.

was thinking about this clan/guild idea and thought i would throw my hat in the ring with my own idea......

what if this whole ides was taken into a past vs future aspect.... primitive vs technology all kinda erupting in the present of pardox.... there could be events that players have to choose to fight on which side or to fight against both sides to preserve the way of life in paradox.... special items could be gained that could only be usable by those fighting for that side... if they where to switch sides the use of items would be lost.....

also as the game grows and we have special type of runs that can be done... they could be on the concepts of being primitive or tech runs... that could contain things like weapon restrictions (tech runs could only use TP using weapons)
to skill restrictions

so there you go i say we go ewok vs stormtroopers.................. anyone want to be in ewok with me

You funny little furry person...

This is where it gets messy - you're talking about team play, which is cool but isn't necessarily part of all clans. I tend to think there's a need for more than one type of clan and, here's the tricky part, allowing a player to be in different clans for different reasons AT THE SAME TIME.

No, I'm not talking about allowing a player to be in fifty thousand different clans at once, but I can see value in allowing someone to be in, say, a social group AND a team play group simultaneously.

In the meantime, feel free to put forward ideas for either/both, because we WILL be getting to it at some point, probably before we go to beta.

For my money, I'd like to see the multiple clan deal, if only for the reason that I know a lot of social clans that have ended in ToG because of dungeons, and dungeon clans that lose people because of rules to social clans.

yep, social clans and team active guilds, dont link them at all, just have 2 separate things, that way there will be a lack of confrontation on the mixing portion and an increase in overall activity so people can do their guild activities then see people in their social clans that aren't in their guild.
