Re: chat emotes!
I'm trying REALLY hard to figure out where those four would be useful...
"Woah! I've got a (cat) in my (shoe) eating a (burger) with (bacon) on it!"
I've got to say, that situation probably doesn't occur all that often.

Re: chat emotes!
(pottytime) - excellent! 8) - to signify the need for a quick run to the comfort room
I like the idea of random emotes such as the burger(should be a cheesy one though imo), shoe, bacon(yes. there's a painting somewhere on the net of a bacon slice very seriously engaged in playing a theremin. I need to find that again.), etc. However, there's the chance that too many fun emoticons will encourage spam. Darn it.
oh yeah, how about a (spam) emote? Like... a little can of spam, probably.
and a (rave) or (techno) or just (dancing) one... like, a little smiley with glowsticks getting funky. So people can express their joy in general, or how awesome they think the current dj's tunes are.
I'll probably come up with more. Yay, right?

Re: chat emotes!
Pretty much, yeah. I'd have to be sure that these emoticons were what the majority of the players wanted and I suspect that's probably not the case.pandamonieum wrote:However, there's the chance that too many fun emoticons will encourage spam. Darn it.
Players, please share your opinions on this.
Oh, also note that it's not a high priority. Tons of other things to do first before playing with emoticons.
Re: chat emotes!
If I had to choose one out of all of these it would be pandamonieum's (spam) Idea that shows a little can of spam .
Re: chat emotes!
I know that emotes do get on some peoples nerves and that they have them turned off. I think what we have already is just fine as it is, if we started adding more emotes, the people who they annoyed would get even more annoyed because of the odd words that would be inserted here and there for people who have them turned on.
I think it is just fine the way it is. Personally, I dont have the capacity to remember to many emotes, i can just remember the smiley face ones. So I vote no.

Re: chat emotes!
If I had to choose the useful ones from all the suggestions, I would say that the toilet one would be the winner...however, I can see myself using the dance one as well. As far as the others, I've been on skype for a long time, and I've seen people abuse smileys. oi.

how about a potty dance emote :-p
Re: chat emotes!
How about no more emoties than are currently implemented?
Personally, I think we already have a few more than needed. However, the ones I am wanting to see done away with would cause a few players to feel slighted. I understand that and don't want to be the cause of any angst so, rather than ask that we remove emotes already implemented, I will simply ask that no new ones be implemented at this time.

Agreed, unless there's a VERY good reason.Grokly wrote:How about no more emoties than are currently implemented?

Here here!
Enjoy what you have, kids. I'll be content with looking at little words stuffed between parentheses through my chat filter. -sighs happily-

Re: chat emotes!
I agree with gob's/groks sentiments....personally all i ever felt the game needed was all your basic smiley's and call it good. However, I see where that is not happening now and can also be at peace with it.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of emotes. I know they can be useful for expressing, but I prefer my language in phonetic form over pictographic. And I have morbid fear that emotes could get to the point that someone unleashes a USB dongle goblin or something.

Re: chat emotes!
I see that the big no has been said but I thought I would throw this one in anyways, for consideratin later perhaps?
<-- I dont recall seeing a shocked emote in the list.
They dont bother me, so long as they aren't being spammed.

Re: chat emotes!
All this said, one thing I'd LOVE to see would be a bunch of consistent images for the existing emotes. At the moment we have a pretty odd bunch, taken from a number of different sources, which look... well, ok for the most part but sometimes a bit out of place.
If anyone's got the time/inclination/ability to remake the existing emotes, so they're all consistent, that would be amazingly good.
Ideally, emotes should be:
- 16x16 pixels (width negotiable, height should be 16 unless there's an AMAZING reason not to be)
- PNG format (transparent background, 32k colours), OR
- If animated, GIF format (transparent background, 16 colours if possible)
- Nicely shaded
- Preferably NOT animated unless there's a really good reason
For a full list of existing emotes, see http://www.paradoxwiki.com/index.php?ti ... de:_Emotes

While the extent to my graphics ability ends at 2d ms paint sprite work. There are some really nice emotes around on DeviantArt. I just looked around...

Re: chat emotes!
I really like that top set. Generic enough that everyone recognizes them, but they have a little more character than your common emotes.
Not that I'm going to turn off my filter any time soon -cough-.

Re: chat emotes!
We're not talking about removing icons and replacing them with others, just making the images consistent.
Unfortunately, not one of them contains ALL of the emoticons used in Paradox. Although the "standard" emoties are there, they're also much the same as the standard ones we have now. It's the extra things that look out of place. Like the heart, the frog, the high five, the hug etc.

Re: chat emotes!
Personally, I prefer some nice antialiased ones over plain ones with blocky black borders but since I have them turned off anyway, what I think isn't really important. Shrug. Doesn't really matter. Nobody's had a go at creating a new emoticon set for the game, and it's a very (very) low priority for us right now.
