Mall Map: Discuss
I don't know, it looks good. But the other spaces are too small for other upcoming mall stores.
If you can tell me that that *points* thing is an escalator leading to more stores, I'll shut up
Feedback/ Discussion appreciated

Re: Mall Map: Discuss
The map needs a large red "YOU ARE HERE" marker right in the middle of where the concourse come together just north of the mall exit.
Everyone knows that every single mall map ALWAYS has "YOU ARE HERE" screaming red printing on it.
Everyone knows that.
...Everyone.

You were not the first one to complain about thatWinsome wrote:The map needs a large red "YOU ARE HERE" marker right in the middle of where the concourse come together just north of the mall exit.

Is it really important, is it?
Re: Mall Map: Discuss
I love it, great to see maps being bought in. It's small things like that that impress newbies to the game.
Re: Mall Map: Discuss
This is what I see no my screen, it seems like some of the words are kinda blurry.
"Supermegagoogolplex"
The Pharmacy (I can't be bothered to type it all down).
"Barry's Burger"
"Regeneration"
"Token"
"Burt's Awards"
"Crazy Bob's"
"Exit" (Though I think this works nicely the way it is)
While all the other words are sharp and crisp.

Re: Mall Map: Discuss
effing bonzer. I like it a lot. The only thing that confuses me is that in my mind I had the size of each store compared to the others ALL wrong. I fail at proportion.

Re: Mall Map: Discuss
Maybe there should be a red dot that says "You are NOT here." I think that would be better.

I think the map is a great addition to the game. I also think that the suggestions given so far are excellent and extremely valid.
For a rough beginning, this is fantastic. Access to multiple floors would be nice as the mall grows. A "You are here" point is pretty much the point of looking at a mall map in the first place. Also, the fact that an exit is marked is good, but what about an entrance? Is there a foodcourt in this mall somewhere? People need to eat, you know. If I come up with more on the fly, I'll let you know.

Re: Mall Map: Discuss
Why would you need to have the entrance marked on a map INSIDE the mall? Silly girl.=op

Re: Mall Map: Discuss
Er, yeah, marking an entrance would be pretty redundant since you're already in there, not just floating around in the parking lot or something. Assume that by following the link to the Mall, that includes walking through the doors.
I feel a bit the same about the "You Are Here" marker. When a mall map has one, it's to help people navigate from where they are to where they're going. Since the player doesn't actually need to do any kind of navigation, it's not actually useful in any way. If you guys all REALLY want it, I'll add one, so long as you don't mind the fact that it's irrelevant and pointless.
Multiple levels? We'll take that as it comes. We'll obviously try and cut down on the number of clicks required to get from point A to point B, but if we need to expand the mall upwards, we can do that. Provided we can get the appropriate building permits and stuff
Food court? See above. No point adding a food court without food stores to go in it, and food items to stock said stores with.
Blurry text. Now, that's an interesting one. The text appears blurry because it's part of the graphic, rather than generated by the browser. Theoretically, the graphics program is trying to make the text *clearer* but clearly (heh) that doesn't work. I did play with having browser-generated text on top of a textless graphic, which worked but makes the page a lot more complex and prone to error. I think I'll probably just play around and see if I can make the graphical text sharper. Counter-intuitively, turning off antialising will probably do it.
EDIT: Text de-blurrified and reuploaded. If yours still looks blurry, try clicking this link and making sure you refresh it until the blurry goes away. If the blurry still doesn't go away, try wearing your glasses, or perhaps getting some.

Re: Mall Map: Discuss
haha link fail. I dig it though, and I personally don't mind a redundant "You Are Here" marker, as it adds a (dare I say it?) Douglas Adams-esque slice of stale humour, in my mind.

Re: Mall Map: Discuss
Mall map now has a "YOU ARE HERE" marker. Or at least, it will have when the image finally refreshes on your browser. Again, click this link and refresh it if you're impatient.
