AWAY chat command

Unread post by commandermack » Thu Nov 05, 2009 7:16 pm

Ok, maybe im just super tired where i shouldn't be online right now, but the AWAY command's image is a bit hard to see in normal aspect mixed with all the other shirts... I have two options I think would help. 1. Make the clock bigger or the image the clock itself. 2. Relocate all AWAY people to the bottom of their Respective shirt Color list so you can tell all the people who are Away at once without sifting through the list closely looking for the clock.

Option 3 of course would be to just leave it alone.

Post your opinion. :) Also add other ideas if you have them.

I have absolutely no problem with it the way it is now and I only have a 13 inch screen...

Well, that might explain why you dont have a problem with it, you are use to squinting to read already. :D

I'd also suggest changing the lurk/away time to minutes as currently having so and so many thousand seconds doesn't tell much.

I don't see the value in moving away people to the bottom of the list at all. I mean, who goes looking for all the away people and needs them all grouped together for convenience? Really, who does that? Explain the point of it to me and I'll consider it.

Regarding the size of the overlay... I have crap vision and it's fine to me, but if it's a popular request I'll look at making it about 30% bigger, but no more or you won't be able to clearly see the image behind it.

Re lurk/away time in minutes. Oh alright, I'll do it now.

One out of three ain't bad.

I've just added an Idle time (shows how long since the person last spoke, roughly) and lurk/away/idle times are formatted as "NNm NNs" (eg. "12m 17s").

Well, chat will grow as time goes on, channels like games will expand and become active, lots of people like to know roughly how many tickets to put in their stores before starting an AR or if the room has enough active people to host a game. All the Aways at the bottom helps keep counting easy and accurate as you only have to strum your finger down the list real quick. Another practical use for this could be seen in Trade if people wanna define the best time to post a buying mass amounts of various items message instead of spamming trade with Buying/Selling Ads.

Well if you're looking for accuracy in counting, that probably won't help, as we have seen many people forget to change back from being away, or changing for frivolous reasons that have nothing to do with being actually away. I personally love the list the way it is. If we REALLY needed something like this for counting functions, maybe there would be a way to just do /headcount "There are currently 5 active users and 3 inactive (lurk/away) users in /trade" Cause honestly, that's what someone is going to ask for on the day the roster gets too full for them to want to bother scrolling and counting.

But at *this time* at least, I don't see either being necessary. I like it the way it is.

Want to know what would be really cool? A /afk alternative command to /away.

I know it's only one character shorter, but it's not all about the keystrokes, man.

Yeah, sometimes it's about Grokly's inability to type 'away' consistently.

Yeah, I think it's all about the *this time* thing. Right now, I can't see the need for it, and any potential future need is really just us guessing that that's what people will want. It can always be changed later if people really want it.

Whilst I understand your desire to limit your stroking (probably to protect your eyesight), you could always make a macro.

Indeed I could, assuming my eye sight is still good enough to have read your post correctly. I could also have made a /c macro to use in place of /channel. Fortunately you were kind enough to give us a shortcut. :P

Yeah, I used to be a sucker like that :) Also, I don't think we had macros then. Anyway, if you'd like an /afk alias, go right ahead and make yourself one :)
