Name the Mall - Winners Announced

Unread post by Gobberwart » Sat Sep 20, 2008 2:51 pm

Winners Announced

The winners in the "Name The Mall" contest are as follows:

First Prize - BeastyClaire
Second Prize - JazzyCat
Third Prize - JazzyCat (again)

For full details, scroll down.

-----
Well, I created this contests forum so.. let's have a contest.

As you know, the mall currently is without a witty name, and it needs one. Rather than think of a name ourselves, which is just a bit too much like work, we've decided to turn it over to you.

Prizes

FIrst Prize: 1,000,000 (1 million) moolah
Second Prize: 350,000 moolah
Third Prize: 150,000 moolah

Rules

* Post your entries as replies to this forum thread, before Intermission on 5th October, 2008
* The mall name should be reasonably short, original, catchy and preferably include a reference or pun of some kind
* You can offer up as many names as you can think of. Each name comprises one entry. If one person contributes the three best entries, that person will receive all three prizes.
* The winning entry will not necessarily be included in the game, however the best three entries will still receive prizes as stated
* Entry is open to all except official Dev Team members (that's anyone with a PID less than 500)
* The contest will be judged by myself and 2 other Dev Team members (to be advised) before Intermission on 6th October, 2008
* The judges' decision is final
* Prizes will be awarded as soon as the decision is made

Let me introduce...MOP...

Where you can find all of your [cleaning] supplies in one convient location!

*THE* Mall of Paradox! (note had to do this due to regional relation ;))
We're located just North of the Spiffilicious River, at the intersection of Impalix 494 and Highwaywomen 273

Where you can have some fun at Barry's Burger Bits Barn, making your own burgers, provided that you bring your own bun and meat. Or The Pharmacologicopaediatorium, where it has all your snot, and boo-boo bandage needs, and some cream...you can do what you want with that ;) And the Supermegagoogolplex Cinema, though it's currently underconstruction, and we're not even sure if it's going to show movies yet or not.

Otherwise outside we have the beautiful Charlie Gardens Memorial Park, where you can take a jog, step in something gross, fight off some pigeons for some of your soggy bread. Don't forget to bring a helmet for the squirrels!!

Outskirts Mall (Hey when it was built.....)
International Mall of Paradox
and James E. Mall Mall, but the natives call it the "Mall Mall" or "Mall Square"

Mall of Random Events! (MORE)
Where you can:
1. Ride mechanical horses with coins fished out of the reflecting pond.

2. Try pants on backwards at the Gap. Ask the salesperson if they make your butt look big.

3. Dial 900 numbers from demonstration phones in Radio Shack.

4. Sneeze on the sample tray at Hickory Farms and helpfully volunteer to consume its now unwanted contents.

5. At the bottom of an escalator, scream "MY SHOELACES! AAAGH!"

6. Ask the sales personnel at the music store whether inflated CD prices are in pesos or rubles.

7. Teach pet store parrots new vocabulary that makes them unsellable.

8. Stomp on unopened tomato ketchup packets at Burger King...

9. ...but save a few to slurp on as snacks. Tell people that they're "astronaut food."

10. Follow patrons of B. Dalton's around while reading aloud from "Dianetics."

11. Ask mall cops for stories of World War II.

12. Ask a salesman why a particular television set is labeled black and white and insist that it's a color set. When he disagrees, give him a strange look and say, "You mean you really can't see it?"

13. Construct a new porch deck in the tool department of Sears.

14. Wear pancake makeup and new clothes and pose as a fashion dummy in clothes departments, occasionally screaming without warning.

15. Test mattresses in your pjyamas.

16. Ask the tobaccanist if his hovercraft is full of eels.

17. If you're patient, stare intently into a surveillance camera for an hour while rocking from side to side.

18. Sprint up the down escalator.

19. Stare at static on a display tv and challenge other shoppers whether they, too, can see the "hidden picture."

20. Ask appliance personnel if they have any tv's that play only in Spanish.

21. Make unusual requests at the Piercing Pagoda.

22. Ask a salesperson in the hardware department how well a particular saw cuts through bone.

23. At the pet store, ask if they have bulk discounts on gerbils, and whether there's much meat on them.

24. Hula dance by the demonstration air conditioner.

25. Ask for red-tinted lenses at the optometrist.

26. Sneak up on saleswomen at the perfume counter and spray *them* with your own bottle of Eau de Swane.

27. Rummage through the jelly bean bin at the candy store, insisting that you lost a contact lens.

28. Ask a saleswoman whether a particular shade of panties matches the color of your beard.

29. In the changing rooms, announce in a singsong voice, "I see London, I see France..."

30. Leave on the plastic string connecting a new pair of shoes, and wander around the mall taking two-inch steps.

31. Play the tuba for change.

32. Ask the Hamond organ dealer if he can play "Like a Virgin."

33. Record belches on electronic sampling keyboards, and perform gastric versions of Jingle Bells for admiring onlookers.

34. Ask the pharmacist at the drugstore which leading cold remedy will "give you a really wicked buzz."

35. Ask the personnel at Pier 1 Imports whether they have "any giant crap made out of straw."

36. "Toast" plastic gag hot dogs in front of the fake fireplace display.

37. Collect stacks of paint brochures and hand them out as religious tracts.

38. Ask the information desk for a pram(stroller), and someone to push you around in it.

39. Change every TV in the electronics department to a station showing "Saved by the Bell." Chant the dialogue in a robotic voice, and scream if anyone tries to switch channels on one of the sets.

40. Hang out in the waterbed section of the furniture department wearing a Navy uniform. Occasionally run around in circles yelling "scratch one flattop!"

1. Paradox Mall, where you shop 'till you drop, then get up and shop again. Or Else.
Are we going for the name? Or a description on top of that? I don't really understand.

It seems that some people (*cough* unknownz *cough*) have been getting a bit too creative, but as stated pretty clearly in the original post, we're just after a short, catchy name for the mall. That's it. Just a name.

Wow, some more great entries for sure. I definitely have some favourites, and it looks like picking a winner is going to be a bit on the tricky side. There are still 6 days to go, so keep thinking and make the judges work hard for their... whatever it is they get out of judging. A sense of satisfaction or something I guess.

Time to put this thing to rest. There were a heap of awesome entries here, and choosing a winner was particularly difficult. With few exceptions, the judges voted for a bunch of different stuff, and in the end we had to get a fourth judge to split the difference. In the end, entries were awarded points from 5 to 1, and winners were awarded based on the total of all scores.

There was a very clear winner, however. All judges rated this entry very highly, and with a final total of 18 points out of a possible 20, I'm pleased to announce that, henceforth, the "Mall without a witty name" shall be known as (drumroll)....

"Moolah Rouge Mall"

Congratulations to BeastClaire (#501), who takes away the 1,000,000 moolah first prize!

In second place was an entry from someone who clearly has a talent for this kind of thing (having already given us the "It's About Time" tagline). On 10 points, it's JazzyCat (#503) with "Anomaly" (or "Anomally").

You're not going to believe this, but in third place... Yep, it's JazzyCat AGAIN with an entry that I initially missed (sorry Jazzy) but is quite clever and catchy and well worth the third prize. That entry? On 7 points - "Magic 8".

So, in summary:
First Prize - BeastyClaire
Second Prize - JazzyCat
Third Prize - JazzyCat (again)

Congratulations to all winners!

I will be distributing prizes by Pmail in a minute, but while I'm at it, I've decided to award 50,000 moolah to everyone who entered. Just because. This too will be distributed shortly.
