My guess is that it's based on how tasty it looks to whoever's judging :)

All this summer talk makes me sad as we rapidly approach winter here in the southern hemisphere.

Halo-Halo. Its vaguely Chinese or Filipino in origin. We had this on Science Class when we studied mixtures.
We had the 'cheap' Halo-halo though. Not in a parfait glass. Just in a small plastic cylindrical cup. Yep.

Most of the ingredients are possibly rare out there. I separated the hard to finds.
Parfait glass, evaporated milk (or any sweet milk you have over there), shaved ice, ice cream, sweet corn kernels, banana pieces, corn flakes

Others (If you can find them)
Pearl Sago/Pearl Tapioca
coconut shavings/gelatinized coconut/coconut milk
jackfruit
purple yam
red mung beans

Wiki them.

[] Place the banana and coconut/purple yam/beans in the glass.
[] Put the shredded ice
[] Pour the milk. Any amount that you like. I suggest you put alot.
[] Cover with 1 or 2 scoops of Ice Cream. Chocolate seems to be a weird choice.
[] Put the kernels and the corn flakes.
[] If you want, cover it with sweet fruits/sweet things.

It's ready to be served. Halo-halo means mixed so just mix the ingredients before you take a taste.

You can ask littlemissy, she *is* Filipino.

There's a rectangular flan/custard slice. White balls are sago. Mung beans. Coconut (or possibly cheese) shreds. Those green things are either coconut gelatin or something totally unknown. Those red things are practically cherries or the same as those green things. Notice on this that everything is placed over the ice. Its okay. You mix it anyway.

Darn, LGOD beat me to it (^_^)

The green things are just gelatin

And yes the halo-halo is very famous here, it's one of our best summer desserts, and since we only have two seasons (namely wet and dry) we get to enjoy it much of the year (^_^)

Swedish Chocolate Balls

These are yummy and super easy! No baking or cooking at all!

Ingredients:
8 dL (3 1/4 cups) oats
3 dL (1 1/4 cups) sugar
6 Tbsp (90 mL) cocoa
1 Tbsp (15 mL) vanilla sugar (or 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract, added with the coffee)
150 g (2/3 cup) butter or margarine
6 Tbsp (90 mL) cold coffee
flaked coconut or pearl sugar
Directions:
1. [Mix oats (Instant Oats will give a better texture and flavor and is recommended), sugar, vanilla sugar, and cocoa in a large bowl.
2. Using your hands or a potato masher, incorporate the butter into the dry ingredients until the dough has an even consistency.
3. Add the coffee and mix until incorporated.
4. Fill a small bowl with flaked coconut or pearl sugar.
5. With your hands, roll the dough into 3 cm (1 inch) diameter balls.
6. Roll each ball in the coconut or pearl sugar and place on a tray.
7. Chill chocolate balls for at least one hour before serving.

Congratulations to all of the winners. Good idea for a comp Z. I will definitely be trying some of these out when we get a bit closer to summer time here.

LOL that's priceless. No harm in turning this into a desert recipe thread though!
