Forum software upgrade

Unread post by Gobberwart » Tue Feb 10, 2015 4:08 pm

For security reasons, I have just upgraded the forum software from PHPBB 3.0.8 to PHPBB 3.1.3. As usual, please be on the lookout for any strange behaviour, and let me know if anything doesn't seem to be working right.

So far the only issue I'm aware of is that our cats vs cars spam protection system isn't compatible with the new version, but the new version has some built-in captcha goodness that will hopefully do the job. If not, I'll figure something out.

There are a couple of new features in the new phpBB that I quite like - Notifications and Quick Links. Be sure to check them out.

(Almost) all emoties have been updated to match Paradox chat because... obviously I have nothing better to do.

It looks like I should be able to add in chat-equivalent code on top of the bbcode so that (frog) would work the same as :frog: saving sally from herself in future but right now I'm just happy I can do this

For now, you can mostly just use colons where you'd normally use parentheses in chat :leaf: :playboy: etc.

Well, unless I got something terribly wrong, you should all (hopefully) be seeing a very different look about the forums now. It's a little more... Paradox-y I hope. It's still very much the standard theme with a few basic tweaks, but it's a change from the standard colour scheme.

Let me know if it's working or now, and if you have any thoughts.

Me cretinously creams his bowl of Ludditioes and looks over from his breakfast counter (plumped in the livingroom, goggling at the Magic Lantern Machine). A tricky rabbit and a drunken reeferchaun dance by, tossing colours to the air and chanting,
"It's Paradoxically delicious!"
A happy fool is me.

Will any of this be on the test?

pffft! I still can't work out how to catch the clap. I'll lay odds I've overlooked some small setting somewhere.
(Imagine an inane grin with a pair of hands clapping the 'Wart)

I must have emoticons turned off somewhere, because all I see are words between colons and parenthesis.

And I'm just fine with that.
